Nike SB
Nike Skateboarding (Nike SB) made its mark in the early 2000s by understanding that it wasn't easy for the world's largest sportswear manufacturer to seamlessly integrate into skateboarding and skate culture. Instead of pushing something developed at Nike HQ, Nike SB handed over the keys to its team riders, giving them the opportunity to design shoes and a footwear phenomenon that they truly wanted, backed by Nike's resources. To this day, the Nike SB collection remains strongly influenced by the designs and ideas of its team riders.
The breakthrough came with the Dunk, originally released as a basketball shoe in 1985. While it retained its classic profile, Nike SB made several modifications to the Dunk, tailoring it to the needs of skateboarding and skaters. By the '90s, skaters had already adopted the Dunk model, finding it in discount bins as it was deemed outdated for basketball courts but perfect for skating. The Nike SB Dunk eventually became one of the most advanced and durable skate shoes of its time.
