Beyond Helsinki
Our Helsinki store is located in Kaisaniemi, right above the University of Helsinki metro station in the Fennia Block (Fennia-kortteli). We opened the Helsinki store back in 2018 at Kaisaniemenkatu 4. At the store, you’ll find our store managers Karoliina and Matias. Both have been working with us for a long time, but their relationship with Beyond goes back even further.
When did you visit Beyond for the first time?
Karoliina: I’ve been working at the Helsinki store since opening day! I visited the Jyväskylä shop maybe a year before that, while passing through on my way from my hometown, Vaala, to Helsinki. I bought a pair of Karhu shoes, and I remember that the person working there was super nice and friendly. Later on, of course, it turned out to be Aatsi.
For my job interview in my early twenties, I wore a white R-Collection x Beyond collab hoodie that I absolutely fanned over; it had "Beyond" written on the back of the neck. Juho was completely sold, and I still have that hoodie today. Beyond is a truly great place to work. There’s a wonderful team spirit among fun coworkers, the teamwork is seamless, and everything runs smoothly.
It’s fun to keep track of which shoes people are queueing for at any given time and how the "it" trends shift. There are so many great customer encounters at work, and there’s never a shortage of stories. I believe that when you can truly be yourself at work, the team's good vibe rubs off on the customers, making them feel right at home too.
Matias: I visited the Jyväskylä Beyond for the first time around 2012–2013, when we were on a tour from Kokkola with the skate crew. We went to say hi to the shopkeeper, and Juho ended up showing us the best spots in the city.
Working at a skate shop has been a childhood dream of mine, and it’s been incredible to jump on board with this crew. Through this job, I want to pass on that same feeling to our customers that left an everlasting impression on me when I first stepped into a skate shop to check out the gear.
I believe that having a good time at work – positive vibes etc. – shines through to the customers. We want them to have a cozy, living-room type of feel when they visit the shop. Now Beyond is hitting its 20th anniversary, which is absolutely mind-blowing. In that time, Beyond has done more to push skateboarding and streetwear culture forward than you can even wrap your head around in one sitting.
