Salomon was founded in 1947 in the historic village of Annecy, located in the French Alps, where its headquarters are still based today. The company has been owned by Finnish Amer Sports since 2005.
In its early days, Georges Salomon started by crafting patented ski edges in a small workshop. His son, François, who had a technical background, developed a passion for alpine skiing after witnessing the construction of the first ski lifts around the Annecy region's mountains.
Salomon’s technical innovation continues to meet timeless style. One of its most famous sneaker models, the XT-6, was released in 2003, specifically designed for demanding ultramarathons.
Salomon was already part of streetwear culture two decades before gorpgore made outdoor brands high fashion (Gorpgore being short for "Good Ol' Raisins and Peanuts"—the best outdoor snacks).
The XA Pro shoe, launched in 2002, revolutionized multisport footwear and was later adapted for streetwear markets, cementing Salomon’s dual identity as both a leader in outdoor sports and a streetwear trendsetter.
